The basics of the Kindle 3 are the same as the Kindle 2, but it's all the new little improvements that will keep the Kindle as champion among eReaders. Some of the improvements will be noticeable to the average user while others will not, but all of the changes will make your reading experience more enjoyable.
The text on the Kindle 3 is noticeably clearer. Text on the Kindle 2 was good, but the Kindle 3 is even crisper. Page turns are much faster on the new model. There is almost no lag during a page refresh. The Kindle 3 actually does everything faster. The Kindle 2 wasn't slow but the 3 is faster.
The physical size and feel of the Kindle 3 did change enough for the average user to notice. It's now a decent size smaller. The Kindle is starting to trend towards the size of a paperback book. It's not there yet, but this model is obviously heading in that direction. The Kindle 3 is noticeably lighter than previous models. This is a huge plus for anyone who plans on carrying the device with them at all times. There is also a rubberized back added to the device for more comfortable handling.
The other changes to the Kindle 3 include more storage and increased battery life. According to the new specs the Kindle 3 should be able to go an entire month without needing to be charged so long as you are using the WiFi. The one thing that has been removed is the number keys. You must now navigate to a symbols menu in order to type numbers.
In the end, the Kindle 3 is a noticeable improvement over the Kindle 2. Almost all of the changes are aimed at enhancing the users reading experience. Kindle is still the market leader and with the improvements they keep making it's easy to see why.
